Walking on Sunshine

I was walking around town yesterday and came upon a happy little display of sidewalk chalk outside of Pura Vida. Spreading positive vibes, no matter how you do it, is always a great thing! :)

Peanut Butter & Banana Treats (for the dogs)

Jon and I baked some homemade treats for our dog, Lola; she loved them so much, I thought I'd share the recipe!

Ingredients:
  • 5 eggs
  • 2 cups natural peanut butter
  • 2 1/2 cups bananas, mashed
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 5 cups whole wheat flour
  • 2 cups wheat germ
  • 1/4 cup oats
  • 5 egg whites, lightly beaten for brushing
Preheat oven to 300 degrees, grease baking sheet.
In a medium bowl stir together eggs, banana, peanut butter, and honey. In a large bowl stir together flour, wheat germ, and oats. When the dry ingredients are mixed well, pour the wet mixture into the flour mix, stirring until fully blended (if you aren't using a hand mixer, it may be easiest to mix the ingredients together by hand once they're semi-blended together).

Cover a flat surface in flour and roll a large lump of dough out to a 1/4 inch thick. Cut out into shapes -dog bone shaped cookie cutters work awesomely!

Place the cut out shapes on a greased baking sheet and brush them with egg whites. Bake 'til browned, about 30 minutes. Remove from oven and cool on wire rack... Once cooled, serve up dessert for your furry loved ones! :)

Please feel free to share this recipe with your dog lover friends!

Random Acts of Kindness

The other day I was having lunch downtown with Jon (boyfriend) and our little doggie, Lola (it also happened to be her 5th birthday on this day!). The sun was shining and the air felt warm despite it being the beginning of February and still being winter. I remember watching the reflection of the sun dance upon the sidewalk and got the warm fuzzies when I saw Lola flop down in one of the sunny areas to soak up some Vitamin D. The day was peaceful, I was relaxed, enjoying the warmth - even though it must've been in the high 40s... The sun did a good job of tricking me into thinking it was the beginning of Spring.

I saw a small group of people walking along the pavement headed in our direction. Now, there were many passersby during our meal, but what was different about this group of people were the signs they were holding. The signs they held were made of posterboard and written in big, unmistakable letters were the words, "FREE HUGS". I watched as they gave hugs to people they've never met and I could instantly feel my heart growing brighter! A couple of the guys walked by where we were sitting and I happily got my free hug and so did Jon. It amazed me how much a simple gesture can really perk up your day. Even the air had a buzzing energy to it from all the positivity floating around!

The "Free Hugs" campaign has been going on for years, but that didn't make the encounter any less special. There are so many of us out there who are striving to lead happier, more peaceful lives. We want to co-exist with others in harmony and the act of giving out free hugs is a perfect example of how to bring people closer. Love really does make the world go 'round and random acts of kindess are a great way to spread the love!

What are some things you do to spread kindness and love?

For those who haven't yet seen the "Free Hugs" video on YouTube, here it is:

Inspiring Quote

"Your task is not to seek for love, but merely to seek and find all the barriers within yourself that you have built against it." - Rumi

Hi everyone!

Hey there! Thanks for stopping by my blog! This is my first blog post on here ever so I feel a little introduction is needed. :) My name is Kerry, I'm a twenty-something living in Asheville, North Carolina. I love the mountains, they breathe life into me. I love meeting new people as well as spending time with those I've known for a long while. I believe that every moment is special and I'm so grateful for each beautiful day (and they're all beautiful in some way!). I believe in positivity, kindness, and compassion and I hope to post many things that inspire you or make you feel happier.

I run a website called Pennywishes Art in which I design and print art prints, handmade cards, and stationery. I also design buttons that will be listed for sale very soon! I also run a small freelance graphic design business on Etsy called Design Muse. I love working with others who are a part of the handmade community! My other job is working for a soap business called Sun & Moon Soapworks that I co-own with my boyfriend, Jon. We make handmade cold process soap, soy candles, lip balm, etc. My favorite part is testing everything! ;)

Thank you again for visiting my blog, I hope you'll come back soon - or become a follower and comment often, I'd love to hear from you. :)

Love & Happiness,
Kerry
